Danielle Thank you for your honesty and your very interesting comments. When I work with young children or parents of young children who stutter and are also perfectionistic, I find that I try to introduce activities that are geared to showing the child and family that the world is a messy, silly, and an imperfect place and that it’s OK. We might finger paint, knock down towers of blocks, or throw water balloons and have fun doing it. I find that I say things like “No big deal” during these activities so that the child and families begin to realize that its OK to not be perfect at all times. I also help the parent and child to begin to notice that even wonderful speakers are dysfluent and that dysfluency and other mistakes are a typical part of speaking. Hope this helps. Best, Barbara
