Hello, my name is Amanda Rudkin and I am an SLP graduate student at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point. I just wanted to comment on how interesting I found this study to be. I think that perfectionism can have an effect on a person’s stuttering as well as those who do not stutter. As I was reading the list of eight cognitive distortions as errors of logic, I laughed to myself because I do all of these things from time to time. These negative ways of thinking can play a role in how we view ourselves and affect our emotional state. Being in graduate school has occasionally increased these self-doubting behaviors for me personally, and I can understand how a person who stutters can also have more difficulties with their speech when struggling with having perfectionistic tendencies. Thank you for this study, it was very good reading!
