You pose an interesting point. The connection between perfectionism and stuttering is more of an association or relationship of factors rather than causal in nature. Many people have perfectionistic tendencies, they don't have to stutter. What perfectionism does is create difficulty in coping with behaviors or practices that the person believes to be 'less than acceptable'. A person's lack of tolerance in being fluent is associated with more negative feelings and that can become a revolving cycle.
