I am a first-year graduate student in Communicative Disorders. I really enjoyed reading your article and think it is very credible that there is a link between perfectionism and stuttering. This type of research also really piques my interest because I have a degree in Psychology as well. The Cognitive-Behavioral Theory seems to be a good approach in addressing the intrinsic factors associated with stuttering. You stated that the results of your study showed a decrease in stuttering as well as a reduction in negative perfectionist attitudes. I was just curious about the significance of the decrease in frequency of stuttering because I’ve learned that as people are more comfortable with their stuttering, sometimes the frequency of the stuttering can increase just because they are using less avoidance behaviors. On the other hand, maybe the frequency of the stuttering decreased because of the stuttering modification techniques you used. I was just wondering what you thought about that. Thanks again for the article. I enjoyed it!
