Hi Alan, Thanks for your response. Yes I have determination and a caring attitude to others and empathy, but I could have had these even if I'd have been a non-stammerer. Also, as I believe that identity is created by the stories we tell ourselves and others, maybe I decided to acquire these characteristics when I realised it would help me get to a place I wanted to be after I was shown a way out of the "swamp".
