You quote Bloodstein and his most accurate account to anxiety in stuttering. You mention relapse as common in adult pws. Walt Manning' work on cogntive anxiety and personal constructs in pws reinforces this. Many pws relapse after residiential fluency shaping programs. They master the targets but then, after graduation, confront the same situations they fear and the anticipatory anxiety (fear of stuttering) makes the targets too hard to coordinate. Anticipatory anxiety is the culprit more than anything else. Ambient noise is getting more attention than anxiety in those pws unable to benefit from in-the-ear prosthetic devices. What exciting research do you know of in the area of CBT for pws?
