Hi. I am a SLP graduate student at NYU Steinhardt. I am taking a course on fluency disorders with Prof Lee Caggiano. Thank you so much for piece--I found it insightful and well established. I am wondering how (if) you involve family in treatment. In your essay, you mention that parents often have concerns about their child being teased and so on. And that it is often parents that bring their child to therapy. How, then, do you create client-driven goals, when often it is the parents that are pushing for therapy. How do you compromise between the parents (family) and the individual with the stutter? Or do you find that the client and the parents are usually aligned on the issues?
