Hello Lindsay If you think the goals are not realistic I think you need to think about whether that is in terms of time or change and talk carefully with the person about it. Sometimes they will see that they need to change their goals - or they may need help from others as well e.g. if they think that being fluent will solve all their problems. If someone is anxious about going into specific palces or doing specific tasks I guess you need to talk about whether they are anxious because of the stuttering, or whether they would be concerned had they not stuttered. Sometimes they will not reduce their anxiety until they have good fluency strategies. I certainly think we often need to accompany people into a variety of situations as they learn to transfer their fluency. Otherwise we cannot see what they are doing and what strategies they might find helpful.
