Hello Tina. I am sure that in most of the (rare) cases that this happens, we probably do not know - as the person uses another reason to discontinue with us. There is little point 'fighting' to retain someone who does not want to work with you. However, often if you ask how they feel, or whether they are gettting what they expect out of the sessions with you, it gives them an opportunity to say what they think and then we get an opportunity to change if appropriate. I remember hearing Hugo Gregory say that one of the most important things we should learn to do when working with someone was to make them feel that we think they are special - that means finding out what their special interests etc are and talk about those etc. Then they feel that we see them as they are (different from others) and thus may feel confident in our ability to listen (and then respond) to them.
