Hello Susan, My name is Inna Itskovich and I am a Speech Pathology student at NYU. I am taking a class on fluency and have read your article because I believe that it adds a lot of insight to the topics we are covering in class. It seems like there are so many factors that speech pathologists have to be taking into account and have to have knowledge of that I am a bit terrified going into the field. My major question/concern is whether a clinician can really know from the first session whether he/she will be able to facilitate in the treatment of the individual in question. Is it possible to know right away that the stuttering is extremely bad thereby forcing you to refer the person to someone else if you feel that you cannot cope on your own. I feel like I am always asking myself this but that very few articles address this issue. Thank you so very much for your time and anticipated response.
