Hi Tyra, this is a very difficult question - it really depends on how old the child is and how aware they are that they are stuttering. I really think that moost young children are aware when they stutter - and we have to be careful not to build upon the so-called 'conspiracy of silence'. Usually if a child asks me why they are coming, I just say so they can learn how to talk more easily - but it really depends on what the parents have said. Often the parents ask me what to say and I often suggest that they say they are going to see someone who can help them with their talking. Good luck!
