I believe that it is very important to understand what your clients want out of treatment. Having an understanding of why that person is coming to treatment is essential in planning therapy. I also believe that the clinician needs to be honest with the client about what they can do in therapy and how that will benefit them as communicators. I also believe that it is important to address the underlying feeling and beliefs about stuttering to allow the client to be comfortable with their speech. This is very important when working with children. Therapy should be individualized to serve the specific needs of the client.
