Hi Susan, great article!! I am a Junior SLP student and am currently taking a course on stuttering, and a lot of the things you mentioned are the topics we have been discussing in this class. One thing I was really glad to see was how clinicians need to be aware that not everyone wants to sound ‘different’. Recently in our class, we reviewed a past client of our professor who mentioned that in her past therapy she had been forced to speak in a sing-song manner. This type of speech eliminated her stutter, but she said she felt stupid and silly when she spoke. I think it’s great that you mentioned that natural-sounding fluent speech should be the target, and I immediately thought back to this client after reading that. Your article coincides really well with the class I am taking, so it was a really good and reinforcing read, so again, great job!
