As a graduate student in the SLP program, I enjoy reading anything that can help me become a better clinician. I enjoyed reading the article and being reminded the importance of considering the feelings and emotions of our clients. I also liked the idea of asking the client why they have chosen to come to therapy. I believe that it is important to consider our client’s wants and needs throughout the whole process of intervention. You made the statement, “It is more challenging to help them use their fluency in situations outside a clinical setting. Even more of a challenge is the maintenance of fluency over time as habituated responses to stress and social situations often result in anxiety and anticipation of stuttering.” And I think this is so true. Our clients need to be able to leave the clinical setting and have the ability to perform at a successful level of communication.
