Hi Michelle. Thanks for working with children who stutter! The answer to your question would be similar to that I wrote to Diane, so please take a look at my reply to her. It's great fun to do excercises with children that age talking about what they are good at. Try to help them find a way to talk about stuttering to friends and to adults. Try to make them see stuttering is kinda cool: not so many people do it, they get to go to events for stuttering kids, there are books written FOR and ABOUT them, they have a special day on Wednesday (I use to say this is my other birthday, as I can ask for cake/ice cream, go to the movies and get presents) etc. Make them feel special instead of odd. Tell them they are experts on stuttering and that those who mimic them will never be as good at stuttering as they are. And explain "It's ok to stutter, because what we have to say is worth repeating". Good luck! Anita
