Although I do not have 28 years under my belt, I have also been a witness to the comments and questions by those who do not recieve speech services, as well as the comments and feelings from those who attend speech. I am very interested in providing children with the tools they need to respond appropriately to children who respond negatively to their speech/language difficulties or the fact that they attend speech. I can see how bringing a friend to speech may help in reducing bullying and teasing that may occur in the classroom. Have you observed any changes in peer acceptance within the classroom once you instilled this special day? If you have, has the peer acceptance gone beyond that of the one child who attended speech for the day (has it generalized to other students) ? Thanks for sharing the great idea, I think its very important!
