Dr. Dell and Mrs. Reardon-Reeves: I decided to read this article initially because I was unaware that such a position as a Public School Fluency Specialist existed, or had the potential to exist within a typically rigid school budget. I think the concept is very progressive, and has the potential to have a profoundly positive impact on speech and language services provided in the schools. From your presentation, it seems like a very worthwhile endeavor that could potentially aid many SLPs and students alike. I was wondering if you foresee the expansion of this position to other districts nationwide as a common practice, and has this possibility ever been discussed or suggested within administrative and legislative venues, or perhaps with ASHA? Also, to the best of your knowledge, are you aware of any other Public School Specialist SLP positions for other areas, such as with AAC? I am a Graduate student in Wisconsin, and this is an area that I think many up-and-coming future SLPs, with adequate experience, would be interested in potentially pursuing in our future careers.
