I greatly appreciated reading this article. I thought of my own experience with "speech therapy" in school in the 1960s, and the ways the field has changed so much since then. I felt that my stutter had to be a "secret," and feel grateful that this is no longer the case. Knowing that Van Riper is thought of as a pioneer in the field, it was poignant to read of his regrets late in his careet about his work. This frustration may have come out in his work in training Carl. Carl and Nina, thank you for sharing your experiences working in schools. Jeff
