Hello Lisa; Great questions! #1) Of course, without a doubt, adolescents who stutter can benefit from school based (or any) speech therapy. In fact, sometimes adolescence is a perfect time for therapy, as a student may be more ready and more capable to extend "carryover" of skills learned in therapy. School based therapy is not usually described as "intensive" but consistent, appropriate therapy at the middle and high school levels can be very successful! #2) Any clinician who is interested in becoming a fluency specialist can benefit most from (my opinion) (a) extra self-study in the area of stuttering while in graduate school, (b) attending self-help/support meetings for people who stutter to begin to understand the impact of the disorder, (c) getting acquinted with possbile mentors in the area of fluency disorders so when they are able, they can connect with mentors to begin the process of board recongnized fluency specialization (see the details and possible mentors at www.stutteringspecialists.org). I hope these answers are helpful to you!
