Hello Jessica; Thank you for your response. I, too, find that some clinicians can be "reluctant" to try new things. That is the beauty of working together with a "mentor." I know I would have muchreluctance to try anything new in "swallowing" therapy, as it has been a long time since I was invovled in it. I would immediately request consultation with someone who coul dwalk me into the new approaches and help insure quality of care. In the districts where I work, the SLPs love to learn about "new tools," then we role-play them together and then request that I attend therapy sessions to help them put the new skills into action. It really eases the fear of something new. As far as watching a variety of speech therapy (and even couseling skills) in action, the best source I know of right now is the SFA (www.stutteirnghelp.org). They have many DVDs on these subjects (and a great new one called "Basic Clinical Skills"). Thanks!
