Thanks Joe, for some good insights. As for you Joe, frankly your section wasn’t as strong…Anyway, this is a topic that has come up a lot over the years. Yes, I believe a lifetime of stuttering can help me understand a client’s experiences. But that thought of “what worked for me should work for everyone” is a very real barrier. It’s strange—when people come to support group meetings spouting that line, I’m the one who explains stuttering’s variability. And yet, sometimes I feel I’m not quite completely past that notion myself. Thanks for writing a paper on this topic.
