Hi Joes. It’s always fun to read a great article that’s nicely written. The comment in your Conclusion about someone saying “You just don’t understand because you don’t stutter” reminded me of my attempts to deal with this general issue. The goal of the following 2004 article was to get student clinicians thinking about how to respond when a frustrated client asks “How can you understand? You don’t stutter!”. I agree with you guys for I’ve known many clinicians who stutter and many who don’t. Having traveled the same or similar journey can be an advantage but it doesn’t guarantee understanding.
