Hi Rebecca. That's intetesting. I think that with a 5 year old I would not worry at all about the accent-part. In fact, it's important to let him know that it is okay to talk however he talks. Remember that part of what is going on here is that he is already using too much effort while talking, the last thing he needs is for someone to point out something else he is doing "wrong". It's a tightrope walk between being really okay with someone's speech and working on changing their speech at the same time, but with practice you can get there. Take care.
