Thank you both for a very informative article. I have wondered about the benefits and disadvantages of fluency theapists that stutter and those that do not stutter. Both of you have confirmed some of the thoughts I had about this while simultaneousely shedding some new light on the topic. The question I have for Joe Klien is how often do you see the scenario described in the article where a client (or parent) questions you about being able to treat them if you cannot treat yourself? Has anyone decided against using your services after hearing you speak? A question to Joseph Donaher - Have you every had to respond to a client who questioned the therapy given by a dysfluent therapist? If so, how did you respond? I am also interested in knowing have either of you either been part of or heard of a program where the solution offered to the client is that there are both therapists who stutter and those that do not stutter available to assist with the treatment. Possibley allowing them to choose one they are comfortable with, one who would be most beneficial for them or one for a spcecic issue or treatment (and then give them the opportunity or recmmendation for them to change to another therpaist). Another item along those lines is have either one of you heard or have been part of a program where therapists (both fluent and dysfluent) work together to treat a client?
