Hi Alyssa. Thanks for your thoughts. Part of me agrees with what you say... that the client is ultimately responsible, but part of me disagrees. I think too many therapists wash their hands and say, well, this didn't happen and it just my client's fault. He's lazy. We have to be able to sit down and problem solve with our clients. There is a reason why carryover is not happening. Is it that the techniques you are teaching in the therapy room things that he is not comfortable using outside? Is it that he is being asked to do things outside of therapy that he is just not ready to do yet? Is it that the goals of therapy, and what he SHOULD be doing, have been picked by his therapist, and not him? Sit down, problem solve, figure out what is going on. That's our job, and it sounds like you are on your way to being a great therapist. Take care, Joe K.
