I really enjoyed reading this article because I am a SLP grad student working with a fluency client right now. I expected to read this article and get “the answer”, but instead I was pleasantly surprised by the route that was taken. Working with a fluency client for the first time, I was extremely nervous and uncomfortable trying to demonstrate different types of stuttering. I have found though that since the semester has continued, my level of comfort has definitely increased. Can your level of comfort about stuttering affect the relationship between you and your client? I have a question for Joe Klein, from your perspective, have you found that your clients have been more comfortable stuttering in front of you because you are a person who stutters as compared to working with a clinician who doesn’t? How and when do you inform your clients that you are a person who stutters?
