I feel that the point that a clinician, no matter whether they are a stutterer or not, needs to be able to produce both stuttered and non-stuttered speech is an important one. In all aspects of therapy we, as clinicians, need to be able to empathize with our clients and the best way to be able to do this is by being able to reproduce in some aspect what they are doing. We also need to empathize with family in knowing that they are dealing with an unknown factor, and whether we know a little more on a personal level by being a stutterer or we know simply by educating ourselves, we need to help the parents and the client to understand as much as they can.
