Hi Samantha. Therapy procedures that work well are ones that work well for each individual. I tend to like to get my client very aware of what they are doing when they are fluent and when they are stuttering, for instance, how some clients may be holding their breath when they are stuttering. I like the idea of voluntary stuttering or voluntary disfluencies... the reason many people who stutter struggle so much is that we are trying not to stutter... to me, good therapy involves the idea that it is ALWAYS okay to stutter, even though we may be working on processes allowing easier talking. Trying not to stutter, whether through escape behaviors or therapy, simply does not work long term for many people who stutter. Take care, Joe K.
