Hi Dale The answer to your question is that Willy Russell does not stutter! When our Specialist Centre was relocated in 1995 myself and Hilary Liddle (Specialist SLT and currently a Phd student at Leeds)wanted to personalise the Centre and so asked some of our adult clients at the time to choose a local celebrity. Russell the Playwright was chosen because of the philosophy he portrayed in his writing e.g. Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine, which reflects that of the Centre. Willy writes about people who want and are willing to change their lives and to look at themselves in a more positive light. People who strive to fulfil their true potential. It echoes our belief (based on the work of George Kelly) that 'No-one needs to be painted into a corner or be a victim of their autobiography'. The clients wrote to Willy and he met with us all. He agreed we could use his name and he opened the Centre in Sept 95! I doubt you were expecting such a long reply but hope it answers your question!! Thanks Mary P.s. I intend to show and discuss your powerpoint in future group therapy sessions.
