Thanks for your interest, Mia. When I first came up with the idea, I was thinking about how to write about stuttering in a way that gets the reader’s immediate attention. Rhyming seemed like an off-the-wall idea, but I decided to give it a shot. The rhythm of first stanza came to me pretty much as is, but Blaze and Mendaloo were originally wolverines who married at 13.
