This article on “Stuttering in a Historic and Comparative Perspective,” was very interesting. In my Fluency Disorders class we have had discussions about Dr. Bryng Bryngelson, Dr. Wendell Johnson, and Charles Van Riper and how they have contributed to stuttering. I am glad that techniques like surgery on the tongue or using a tube that extends the length of the tongue are not being used as so called ‘cures’ for stuttering in today’s society. Techniques like non-avoidance help many stutters all around to start to gain some control of their stuttering. They are taking an approach to do voluntary stuttering with non-avoidance behaviors. Thank you for your article.
