Not sure the exact reason for why there has been a decrease in training opportunities. Certainly, two reasons are the growth in the scope of practice in speech-language pathology, such that there is so much to learn in two years that all areas are most likely receiving less coverage. Stuttering, because of the nature of the problem, has been especially hit hard. Also, most University clinics are fairly small, thus few clients attend therapy and so students have fewer opportunities. Finally (a third reason), there is a Ph.D. shortage, and this shortage has especially hit the area of stuttering hard (fewer professors in the area). As far as telepractice, we charge very little for the entire program (intensive+telepractice). We charge about $750-800 for the entire program. Not sure all agencies delivering this model charge less for telepractice than traditional treatment. Thus far, the biggest problem with telepractice has been few glitches with the technology, but nothing too serious.
