I wouldn't argue about anything you say there, Ed. So do you have a question or suggestion about how we might try to deal with the circumstances you describe? I've been in contact during this conference with students and SLPs who are doing pseudo-stuttering exercises, and it is interesting to hear what the say - but I always remind them how they can go home afterwards and speak normally, but we can't, and that is what makes our strugle so unrelenting and can make the condition so very depressing. I saw a guy on The Daily Show laughing at Senator Biden, because he has a reputation for stuttering, and his recovery has perhaps unfortunately been used as proof of his strength of character, but in fact, in the clip they showed, I don't think he stuttered at all.
