Hi Amanda. Yes, those pseudo-stuttering exercises are very useful in terms of helping non-PWS understand what we are up against. Don't forget, though, that you can go home after the exercise and speak normally for the rest of your life! In terms of trying to improve understanding, last year I asked a speech device manufacturer if they could reverse the process on one of their devices so that it would make a fluent person stutter - and they said, yes, they could do that! I was then going to ask one of our most famous and dominant political interviewers to try it out - and then describe how having a stutter would change his life completely, make him realise that that he would not be able to assert himself over his intervierw subjects and that, before long , he would be out of a job and feeling useless. But, unfortunately, the altered speech device did not make fluent people stutter. So we need another idea!
