Hi Charles, I totally agree that stuttering therapy should involve so much more than teaching techniques. Learning a new technique in isolation has, in my view, very limited value. When the client leaves the clinician's room, he/she still has the fear of ordering a burger at McDonald's, or speaking to a stranger on the telephone. It's what the client does with the technique(s) that really counts. My techniques/tools gave me the confidence to go into the outside world and challenge my fears and self-limiting beliefs. I used them to expand my comfort zones and change my stuttering mindset. If I had returned home and continued with my former lifestyle, I would soon have lost the gains that I made in the supportive environment. We don't change behaviours by retaining the status quo. Kindest regards Alan
