I am a 1st year graduate student who just started therapy in August. I was assigned two stuttering patients and found this article very useful in planning out my treatment programs. I have to admit that I was extremely nervous, but your seven principles are well planned out and organized, making it easier for a new slp in training to follow. I especially like principle #6: Clients Have To Want Therapy. My first client is a 22 yr. old male who has been stuttering since the age of 3 and after many years of being in and out of therapy, he has finally decided that he wants to be in therapy. He has realized that it doesn’t matter to him what others think anymore and wants to get help to benefit his everyday life for himself, not for others. Thanks for your time. Rhian.
