Until the client can accept that they stutter, then therapy isn't going to do much good or have any last effects. Acceptance of stuttering is multidimensional and associated with a number of factors. A clinician can only do so much to help the client accept the stuttering. You can try various things to help the client like have them advertise the stuttering or discuss why stuttering is such an "awful" thing but some how they need to get over the fact that stuttering defines who they are and what they do in life.
