You say energy should be devoted not just to techniques in therapy, but also to addressing the client's feelings, perceptions, understanding of and attitude towards stuttering. In other words, integrate fluency achievement goals with a degree of counseling. At what point might the well-meaning clinician be able to recognize that they are doing too much of one and not enough of the other? What are examples of signs that a shift in focus is due/needed? Thank you!
