I think one of the goals of therapy is to help a client realize that techniques are only one part of a larger set of issues that need to be addressed in therapy. So, we don't talk about cures or just do this or that and you will be fluent. Most people who stutter want a quick fix and as a clinician, it's my job to paint a realistic picture of all of the things that we need to accomplish. Acceptance of the stuttering is a big issue and that's just a process that takes time with each client. There isn't any magic formula or ways to do that. Each client is different but what I do mostly is try to use some voluntary stuttering in the initial stages of stuttering to help desensitize the client to the stuttering and him understand what to do and what he's doing when he stutters.
