In the age of health care providers and insurance plans, we often get lost in labels. We want them because we want not only reimbursement, but to get paid and insurance companies want labels, numbers, statistics. They don't want to hear a descriptive analysis of someone problem. No single disorder is exactly the same in each person. Unfortunately, we have to conform to what the insurance companies want to hear and see, thus we take the humanity out of all these humanities fields (Speech, psychology, etc. included). We become forced to see the patient as a label, as a disorder, as a number, as a statistic. What we really need is to get rid of the middle, or change how to middle man works. That's part of a much bigger political issue. Until then, it's important to educate each upcoming professional about the humanity in our humanities field.
