I am currently an SLP grad student and am very interested in the topic of fluency and stuttering in school age children. While reading this paper, although I have learned about many of your and suggestions in class, I couldn’t help but appreciate some of the poignant ideas and messages written up. One question I have however is about the classmates of this child. You stated that, "stuttering should be openly discussed in class and at home." Many people do not have extensive knowledge about stuttering and positive responses or ways to deal with it. What would be the optimal way to educate teachers, students and parents of school age children without making the child feel isolated and embarrassed about stuttering? Do you think it would be positive to have a specific and required classroom activity of some sort or an educational activity that would teach the children about how to deal with and positively respond to children who speak with a stutter?
