Hello. My name is Sara and I’m a Speech Pathology Graduate student at West Virginia University. I am currently involved in a Parent Fluency Group where parents are expressing their feelings about their child who stutters and I wanted to tell you how informational I found your article to be. I will say your point about teachers not always knowing when a child who stutters is in their classroom took me by surprise, but it makes complete sense. I’ve heard many cases where the child who stutters demonstrates the same actions that you speak of yourself doing when you were young. Many times the child ends up being very quiet around certain people and sometimes even their closest loved ones and it can end up being a very lonely existence. I believe that when we are talking about a problem that can so deeply affect the way a child feels about themselves, it is a problem that needs to be taken seriously by teachers of every grade level. I absolutely agree that the parent and teacher need to be involved in making sure the child has an understanding environment around them. Thank you for sharing your article.
