I am always looking for metaphors in therapy. So, if I have a Harry Potter fan I use this. If I have someone taking music classes, I have many. Sports are limitless. Remember the metaphor speaks to the unconscious mind and makes high-level abstractions while integrating learning. I was talking with my dad recently. He was born during the great depression. He grew up poor. We agreed that American children need to learn all the money metaphors from past generations: 'money doesn't grow on trees,' 'one in the hand is worth two in the bush,' 'save for a rainy day.' I heard these metaphors my whole childhood. October of 2008 make all these metaphors accurate, don't they.
