Thanks to each of you who have posted a comment or question about my thoughts on the "gift of stuttering". It was enjoyable corresponding with you and I hope to meet some of you one of these days. It occurred to me that there are other interpretations of viewing a serious problem as a gift and I have quoted some of these people (Lance Armstrong, Michael J Fox) in an article I wrote a few years ago [Manning, W. (2004). “How can you understand? You don’t stutter!” Contemporary Issues in Communication Science and Disorders, 31, 58-68]. The descriptions of these people may provide some additional insight about re-interpreting oneself and viewing a problem as a gift.
