It is not only desirable but necessasry that we know what is 'normal' (to provide a baseline or database) before we can judge what is 'abnormal'. Thanks, Sandra, for your sophisticated analysis of the concept of 'fluency.' This helps us better understand the nature of 'disfluency' which in turn is the basic ingredient of 'stuttering'---and Lord knows we are still some way from coming up with a scientifically valid and reliable definition of stuttering!
