Dear Susan, thank you for your question. The case you mentioned is very interesting; this also can happen with Portuguese speakers. In Brazil, speech pathologists also work with normally fluent speakers to improve their fluency. Therapy with normal speakers is usually short. For example, improving language planning is a very effective way to reduce the frequency of expressions with low semantic weigh like “you know”. So even if we are not talking about language or speech disorders, speech pathologists can help healthy people to improve their speech. Best regards, Sandra
