Dear Jennifer, thank you for your questions. Yes, disfluency does not always mean stuttering. About you first question, there is a connection between ADHD and fluency disorders, but this connection is not well understood yet. We know that ADHD is a frequent comorbidity for both stuttering and cluttering. Hyperactivity seems to increase speech rate, while attention deficit seems to impair monitoring skills. About the second question, some studies suggest that stimulant medications for ADHD can worsen stuttering. Therefore non-stimulant medications are usually preferred when ADHD and stuttering occur together. Best regards, Sandra
