Dear Tracy, thank you for your question. When my patients start their treatment, they don’t usually know even about their own stuttering. Sometimes they cannot refer important information, such as: when their stuttering started, if they already had some neurological incident (like concussion), which factors worsen or improve their stuttering, etc. In this case, one of the goals of speech therapy must be learning about stuttering is general and about its own stuttering. I think this is really important because, if the patients don’t understand what happens with them, they will not be able to take care of themselves. Best regards, Sandra
