Dear graduate student, thank you for your questions. I think we must look to fluency as a continuous and not as a dichotomous skill. That is, I think we should say that someone is more or less fluent and not that someone is fluent or not fluent. About the second question, if a person who stutters wish to be a fluent speaker and also thinks that only normal fluency is acceptable, then this person will have a low self worth if he/she doesn’t reach his/her objective. So I think the best way is to valorize all the improvements and not just the “perfect/normal fluency”. Best regards, Sandra
