Any new treatment generates hope, especially for things that currently lack a cure. The treatment of stuttering is no exception; moreover, to confront stuttering is daunting, for it demands sizeable and sustained investments in motivation, courage, persistance, discipline, learning, flexibility--and, at times, money. To assist in this endeavor, clinicians can provide additional organization, leadership, guidance, information, coaching, and support. We also can provide a perspective that separates fact from fiction. Indeed, it is quite appropriate to state that the SpeechEasy is not the cure for stuttering and that, if used, it should be part of a larger therapy process.
